About the role
We are seeking an experienced RBE Mechanician to install, commission, maintain and troubleshoot RBE systems in underground mining environments.
The successful candidate will ensure reliable system performance through inspections, fault-finding, maintenance and repairs while delivering high-quality workmanship, accurate documentation, and responsive technical support to clients and operational teams.
Minimum requirements
- Mechanician experience
- Grade 12 with four years of related experience working with tools and installations, or Grade 12 with two years of related experience in the mining industry
- English literacy
- Valid driver's licence (required)
- Good communication skills
- Basic computer and network skills (advantageous)
- Physically and medically fit to work underground
- Experience working with RBE equipment and systems (advantageous)
- Fault-finding ability
Key competencies
- Installation, commissioning and maintenance of RBE systems underground
- Client interaction, feedback and reporting on completed work
- Completion of job cards, installation check sheets, daily reports and ISO documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Areas of responsibility
Installation and configuration
- Ensure installed equipment and cabling comply with OEM specifications
- Load the correct RBE configuration before installation
- Configure equipment according to commissioning documents
- Follow the change-management process for all changes
Inspection and system checks
- Conduct routine inspections during shifts
- Perform scheduled functional checks and verify equipment and installations
System fault management
- Identify, log and report system-wide defects and abnormalities, including LC reporting
- Replace or report damaged equipment as required
- Record faulty equipment with clear fault descriptions
- Report equipment failures
Operational efficiency
- Identify and report faults or possible operational impacts
- React to breakdowns and complete repairs promptly
Maintenance, repairs and breakdown attendance
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, including firmware and configuration work
- Maintain and repair underground RBE equipment
- Test RBE equipment functionality and validate data
Documentation and technical operation
- Report daily tasks to the Supervisor or Specialist for review and verification
- Operate required software, including Linux
