Electro-Mechanical Interns (CAS Level 9 Department)

About this role

Are you a hands-on engineering student with a passion for automation, electronics, and vehicle safety systems? We’re looking for enthusiastic Electro-Mechanical Interns to join our CAS Level 9 team!

This opportunity is ideal for students who recently graduated with an NQF Level 4–6 qualification in Engineering. You will work alongside our technical experts to gain hands-on experience with the installation, commissioning, and support of A&R’s Collision Avoidance Systems on a wide range of mining vehicles.

You’ll gain exposure to real-world systems involving wiring, PLC logic, sensors, diagnostics, and more—building practical skills that bridge the gap between classroom theory and the mining industry.

Minimum Requirements

- Currently completing or recently completed an NQF Level 4–6 Engineering qualification in one of the following fields: - Electromechanical Engineering - Instrumentation Mechanician

-Valid Code B driver’s license (preferred)

Essential Skills and Experience

- Basic working knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring diagrams - Practical experience or exposure to automotive electrical systems - Familiarity with PLC programming and logic control systems (preferably CODESYS) - Comfortable using basic tools, multimeters, and test equipment - Able to read technical manuals and follow fault-finding procedures - Experience or exposure to mining or heavy-duty vehicle systems (advantageous)

Soft Skills

- Hands-on, proactive, and safety-conscious - Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technology - Good communication and teamwork skills - Able to work under supervision and independently when required

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with the installation, testing, and commissioning of CAS Level 9 systems on various mining vehicles (LDVs, LHDs, dump trucks, etc.) - Learn to perform fault-finding and diagnostics on electronic control systems - Support in wiring, sensor placement, and configuration of proximity detection and vehicle control logic - Participate in software uploads, HMI configuration, and basic PLC diagnostics - Maintain accurate records of tasks completed, faults found, and system status - Follow site safety rules and assist senior technicians as required
