About the role
We are looking for a motivated RBE Learner Mechanician / Mechanician in Training (MIT) to support the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of RBE equipment in underground mining environments.
Working under the guidance of experienced Mechanicians and subject-matter experts, the successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to safe, reliable and high-quality equipment performance.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- English literate, including speaking and basic job-card writing
- Good communication skills
- Basic technical knowledge and ability with tools
- Physically able to work underground
- Valid driver's licence (required)
Key competencies
- Understand RBE equipment and products
- Install equipment according to OEM and mine standards and procedures, including cabling, mounting and basic layout
- Complete required documentation, including job cards and installation check sheets
- Work under supervision
Areas of responsibility
Installation
- Install RBE equipment according to OEM and mine standards
- Ensure all equipment is positioned according to commissioning documents
Inspection and quality checks
- Conduct routine inspections during shifts
- Perform scheduled checks
Fault management
- Identify, log and report defects and abnormalities
- Replace or report damaged equipment as necessary
Maintenance and repairs
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks
- Conduct repairs as required
- Test and maintain RBE equipment functionality
Documentation and reporting
- Complete job cards and installation sheets
- Record and report daily tasks to the Mechanician or Supervisor
- Record and report equipment failures
- Document faulty equipment with clear fault descriptions
