About the role
We are looking for a motivated Learner Mechanician / Mechanician in Training (MIT) to support the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of A&R control & tracking system equipment in underground mining environments. Working under the guidance of experienced Mechanicians and SMEs, the successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to safe, reliable, and high-quality equipment performance.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- English literate (speak and basic writing – Job Card)
- Driver’s License (must)
- Good communication skills
- Basic technical knowledge and ability (tools)
- Physically able to work underground
Key competencies
- Understand A&R control & tracking system equipment and product
- Install equipment according to OEM and mine (cabling, mounting, basic layout) standards and procedures
- Complete required documentation - Job Card / Installation Check Sheet
- Work under supervision
Key responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
- Install A&R control & tracking system equipment according to OEM and Mine standards
- Ensure all equipment are positioned as per commissioning documents
- Conduct routine inspections during shifts
- Perform scheduled checks
- Identify, log, and report defects and abnormalities
- Replace or report damaged equipment as necessary
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks
- Conduct repairs as required
- Test and maintain A&R control systems equipment functionality
- Complete job cards and installation sheets
- Record and report on daily tasks to Mechanician/Supervisor
- Record and report equipment failures
- Document faulty equipment with clear fault descriptions
